Jamie Moody is the Program Director for School Wellness. Jamie and the School Wellness team work with school district administrators, school teachers, staff, students, and parents, and university administrators, faculty, staff, and students to support the development, implementation, maintenance and sustainability of health and wellness policies, systems, and environments. She directs the School Wellness team to identify evidence-based practices, strategies, and policies that best meet the needs and resources of the organization to promote wellness and prevent childhood obesity. Support includes in-class role modeling, train-the-trainer teacher development, policy assessments, and curriculum recommendations.

Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Leisure Studies with additional studies in Counselor Education from Arizona State University.  She previously developed, implemented, and managed childhood obesity prevention research studies at the SDSU Research Foundation Institute for Behavioral & Community Health. She worked in elementary and middle schools and their districts and communities implementing physical activity and healthy eating interventions that included developing policies, systems, and environments.

Other accomplishments include 12 peer-reviewed publications and over 20 conference presentations, the coordination and submission of over 15 National Institutes of Health grant proposals, and the recruitment, training, and mentoring of over 200 student volunteers from high school to post-doctoral level.

Jamie has been involved in the San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative (COI) since its initial years of formation as a grassroots organization, serving two years as co-chair of the Early Childhood Domain. She will continue her involvement in the COI School and After School Domain and the Early Childhood Domain. Jamie served on the Board of Directors for WalkSanDiego from 1999-2006, including 5 years as president.  WalkSanDiego, currently Circulate San Diego, promotes walkable and bikeable mobility options. Away from work, Jamie enjoys the beach, hosting social events, and exploring new craft projects.
