Sammi currently works for the UC San Diego Center for Community Health as a Community Health Specialist for the School Wellness program. She provides support and assistance to elementary schools within San Diego County. In schools where 50% or more of the students receive free or reduced price meals, she is trying to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity by implementing nutrition education, physical activity and parent engagement programs.
Sammi grew up on Long Island, New York. After graduating high school she moved to Baltimore, Maryland to attend Towson University where she received her Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science and Health Science. During her time in Maryland, she gained a variety of experiences in the health field by working at a fitness center, chiropractic care office, and a pediatric rehabilitation hospital. From these experiences she developed a passion for early childhood physical activity and nutrition program implementation with the hopes of eliminating child health care disparities.
Sammi is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health with an emphasis on Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences at San Diego State University. She expects to complete the program in May 2018.
