Shana Wright Bruno (she/her) is the Director of the San Diego Childhood Obesity Initiative. She is a highly motivated and dedicated public health professional with over 10 years of experience in leadership, program coordination, strategic planning, behavior change and health promotion.
Previously, Shana was Senior Program Manager for the Lactation Supportive Environments (LSE) initiative, working with businesses, school districts and community healthcare centers to implement policy, systems and environmental change strategies supporting breastfeeding friendly environments and lactation accommodation.
Shana previously worked on lactation programs under the Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant, a nationwide initiative funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention focusing on policy, systems and environmental change strategies to make the healthy choice the easy choice. Shana supported the Workplace Lactation Accommodation initiative working with businesses, schools, and school districts to assist with the development and implementation of lactation policies and programs for their staff. During this time she also served as a marketing specialist, assisting with the development of a “Working and Breastfeeding” page for the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition website, developing many of the tools housed on the page serving as a sustainable toolkit for employers, employees, and schools.
Shana has also served as a Program Manager with the Retail and School Wellness Programs under a SNAP-Ed grant. Shana supported both initiatives coordinating programs with elementary schools and retailers promoting access to healthy foods and increased physical activity throughout San Diego County.
Prior to her work in public health, Shana worked as a Health Coach for American Specialty Health focusing on empowering clients across the nation to lead healthier lives through nutrition and physical activity education, smoking cessation, weight loss, and stress management utilizing Motivational Interviewing and the Stages of Change Theory.
Shana is a Certified Health Education Specialists and received her Master of Public Health with an emphasis in health promotion and behavioral sciences from San Diego State University. Her undergraduate background stems from a B.A. in Sociology from the College of Charleston.
Shana joined the Center for Community Health in 2011.
