Our Urban Food Environments team including Elle Mari, Lizzy Cooper, Lakisha McZeal, Nghi Dang, and Dominque Woodland supported Project New Village’s Mt. Hope Community Garden Refresh Project on November 6th, 2020. Organizers set up workstations for volunteers to strictly adhere to COVID-19 precaution guidelines to work safely together outside. We gave the garden a much needed makeover including: art projects for the fence, weeding, building storage and shade structures, revamping the orchard into a food forest, and planting a holistic apothecary garden. The garden refresh is one step in a phased approach to Project New Village’s realization of the Good Food District in Greater Southeastern San Diego. We couldn’t be more honored to continue our long held partnership and commitment to Project New Village and the residents of Greater Southeastern San Diego towards building an equitable local food landscape. See more on the project here.
We support Project New Village’s food justice work through both our San Diego Urban Growers’ Collaborative Project and our Farmers’ Markets for All initiative.
