The UC San Diego Youth Advisory Council (YAC) recently welcomed new youth members with a lunch and a special Saturday visit to the Museum of Us, designed to foster meaningful connections, encourage dialogue, and strengthen community within the YAC program.

The youth, alongside YAC program managers Asmaa, Nghi, and Segen, gathered to explore the museum and engage in guided discussions based on the different exhibits. The experience offered an opportunity for students to learn together, share ideas, and begin forming peer connections that support involvement in future YAC activities. The interactive exhibits at the museum served as a platform for shared learning and reflection, prompting discussions around identity, lived experience, and historical and educational topics

The museum tour and lunch served as more than just an introduction to the program—it reflected YAC’s broader mission to empower youth by creating spaces where their identities, experiences, and voices are not only acknowledged but valued. Through the interactive exhibits and shared reflections, participants engaged with themes that resonate deeply with their own lives, reinforcing the importance of dialogue, representation, and community. This experience laid a strong foundation for the collaborative, youth-driven work that defines the YAC program moving forward.
