The Refugee Health Unit (RHU) leads and support multiple programs and inititatives helping refugee and immigrant communities overcome health inequities. Our work is relies on our collaboration with various stakeholders and and connecting with multiple local ethnic community-based organizations (ECBOs). Our program work includes but not limited to:
- Building cross-sector collaboration across community partners and ECBOs for improved community impact across the social determinants of health
- Supporting organizations with strategic operational capacity-building
- Creating best practices to enhance community engaged policy and advocacy efforts
- Improving access to employment and workforce opportunities for local refugee communities
- Bolstering community-led and culturally affirming research to collect and disseminate qualitative and quantitative data focusing on health outcomes for refugees
- Increasing awareness by disseminating reports and publications to demonstrate the impact of successful models and systems changes, and
- Creating innovative toolkits, culturally appropriate and community-led messaging, resources, and materials to highlight replicable models and systems
