The Refugee and Immigrant Health Unit (RIH) at UC San Diego Center for Community Health was recently featured in UCSD Discoveries magazine for its impactful work in advancing health equity for immigrant and refugee communities. The article highlights the RIH’s role in supporting the San Diego Refugee Communities Coalition (SDRCC), an alliance of 11 organizations representing diverse ethnic groups, by serving as a bridge between these organizations and funders and helping build long-term capacity. The feature also showcases the RHU’s statewide impact, including securing over $20 million in funding to replicate the SDRCC model across California through the Afghan Refugee School Impact (ARSI) and Afghan Youth Mentoring (AYM) programs. These initiatives support more than 10,000 Afghan youth and families with culturally responsive academic and social services. This recognition underscores the RIH’s commitment to supporting communities and ensuring equitable access to health resources. We are proud to see this work acknowledged and look forward to continuing our mission of community-driven health transformation.
