The San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative (COI) was created in 2006 as a public-private partnership with the mission of reducing and preventing childhood obesity through policy, systems and environmental change. Over the years, the COI has developed an infrastructure that includes active domain workgroups to coordinate and sustain county-wide efforts to prevent and reduce childhood obesity.
COI is a project of Live Well San Diego funded by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency.
The Center for Community Health is honored to be serving as the facilitating organization of the COI and to continue the great work and partnerships that have been built.
We envision healthy eating and active living resulting in optimal health and wellness for all children and families in the San Diego region.
The San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative is a multi-sector coalition with the mission of reducing and preventing childhood obesity by advancing policy, systems, and environmental change through collective impact.
The San Diego County Childhood Obesity Initiative uses a collective impact model to:
- Coordinate and sustain county-wide efforts to prevent and reduce childhood obesity
- Provide leadership and vision
- Create, support, and mobilize partnerships
- Provide outreach, advocacy, and education
- Assess and report on progress toward county-wide goals.
