Noun is a member of the California Youth Advisory Board who teamed up with our YAC members in San Diego and other youth across the state to plan for the 9th Biennial Childhood Obesity Conference in May. A passionate advocate of health equity, Noun spoke on a panel at the conference about racism and health disparities.  As a City Heights resident who attends school in La Jolla, Noun has noticed the stark contrasts between the two communities in terms of the types of grocery stores, street designs, and resources available.  She brought awareness to this difference in her presentation and discussed how these disparities shape the health outcomes of the residents in those communities.  In order to close this gap, she explained that society must address the racial bias that influences how these communities are designed and as a result the opportunities that are given to or withheld from certain populations.
