Traditionally, research processes and decisions have often excluded the very communities they aim to support. In San Diego County, we’re working to change that. In collaboration with community members, we are reimagining and implementing approaches that focus on engaging local residents with direct experience in food system challenges – supporting their contributions to research and local initiatives.

This locally informed initiative is focused on co-designing, implementing, testing, and refining a granting program supporting applied research projects that improve access to nutritious, affordable food in areas of San Diego County where such access is limited. We are currently developing this program in partnership with the Next of KIN Sub-Committee of the SDCOI Community Council. As the work progresses, we will share updates here!
