Breastfeeding-Friendly San Diego (BFSD) had the honor of recognizing 13 childcare providers from The Chicano Federation as BFSD partners during their August support group meetings.
The Chicano Federation has shown their support for breastfeeding by collaborating with the BFSD program, encouraging their childcare providers to adopt breastfeeding-friendly practices, hosting presentations, and allowing their support group meetings to be used for BFSD trainings. At their August 23rd meetings, they welcomed the recognition of their childcare providers that have completed the BFSD program.
Childcare providers have shown an overwhelming interest in the BFSD program, especially among Bilingual and Spanish-speaking providers. Many agreed that this type of acknowledgement accents their high quality of care and standards of practice.
Sandra Cumplido, owner of Sandra’s Family Childcare, stated, “I was so excited to be a part of this program as it is very special and unique. I have been in business for 29 years, and I am always looking for ways to improve the quality of my childcare.”
All recognized BFSD partners support breastfeeding by:
- Creating a breastfeeding-friendly environment.
- Completing training to support breastfeeding.
- Implementing proper storage, handling, and feeding of breast milk.
- Adopting written policies and procedures that support breastfeeding.
- Offering breastfeeding resources.
Recognized BFSD partners are highlighted on the San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition website where parents are directed to find breastfeeding-friendly childcare.
BFSD looks forward to engaging more childcare providers from Chicano Federation and other organizations during this upcoming year.
