San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) has been a leader in promoting student health and wellness across their district for years. More recently, SDUSD began efforts to offer additional wellness services to their nearly 14,000 employees to support the health and wellbeing of their workforce. The Eugene Brucker Education Center has taken a lead in the district to promote employee health with a focus on physical activity. In partnership with Live Well @ Work, the Eugene Brucker Education Center’s Wellness Committee developed Walk Well walking routes on campus and in the nearby community for employees. SDUSD staff can take a quick break from sitting by walking the 10-minute on campus route or take a longer stroll on the off campus 1-mile route. The possibilities are endless for the benefits of the on campus-walking route, which is marked with signs and painted path reminders. Employees can use the route for walking meetings, group walks during breaks, and a variety of other activities.
