We held a market makeover event on Sunday, November 20th at African Caribbean Food Market. This very unique market in City Heights sells different cultural products from Jamaica, East and West Africa. Our Live Well Community Market Team, together with volunteers from the neighborhood and UC San Diego’s Chi Omega Sorority, spent the morning putting in the necessary work to help transform this market towards an even better version of itself! We did a full scale reorganization by grouping and moving products to new aisles, installed new aisle marker signage and point of sale marketing materials, revamped old and unused produce displays, and gave the market a fresh cleaning. African Caribbean is now easier for customers to navigate and unique specialty items are better highlighted. Market owner, Christian Bempong, is now excited to introduce more fruit and vegetable varieties to fill the newly available produce display space.
Special thanks to our Community Health Specialist, Kate Mahoney, for organizing the day and leading the team and to UCSD student intern Katia Lopes-Gilbert for recruiting and organizing volunteers from Chi Omega.
