Shana Wright Bruno received the Rising Star Award at the 2019 California Breastfeeding Summit. The California Breastfeeding Coalition received nominations across the state of California for the award that recognizes individuals working to support breastfeeding in their community. Shana entered the breastfeeding world as an MPH intern with UC San Diego Center for Community Health in 2011, and now oversees the Lactation Supportive Environments projects at UCSD CCH. She has worked to support lactation accommodation and breastfeeding-friendly policies, systems, and environmental change strategies in worksites, school districts, community health centers and childcare sites. Shana is instrumental in guiding those with a passion for supporting breastfeeding with the tools necessary to create upstream changes, all while taking a special interest in supporting mothers and babies on a more downstream and personal level. Shana’s rising star trajectory is now reaching the position of shining star for San Diego County! We can’t wait to see what she does next.
