The Growing Place Montessori (TGPM) is a family-owned childcare center that aims to develop the whole child. TGPM opened their infant program in January of 2018 and have been supportive of breastfeeding from the beginning. Their Educational Director, Christine Alderman, was interested in becoming a Breastfeeding-Friendly San Diego (BFSD) partner to strengthen their ability to support new families in their parent journey, as well as enhance their connection with families by providing an inviting and welcoming environment for breastfeeding families. Christine stated, “As a community, our goal is to continually improve upon our practices and model a spirit of growth and learning for ourselves and our families.” TGPM felt that the BFSD program gave them an opportunity to stop and reflect on their current practices, while improving and bolstering their breastfeeding policies for both employees and families. TGPM continues to look for ways to provide ongoing professional development. TGPM noted that BFSD provided many tangible resources to pass on to their teachers and families that they were not aware of, and that the teacher workshop was full of meaningful and useful information. Christine stated, “We’re happy to share that this has been a wonderful process and we recommend all centers take part in it!”
Congratulations to The Growing Place Montessori for becoming a recognized Breastfeeding-Friendly Partner!
