The Center for Food as Medicine, an agency committed to enhancing community health outcomes, spotlighted the ¡Más Fresco! Plus Produce Prescription Program. This recognition is a testament to our outstanding work and contribution to fostering healthier lifestyles, including healthy food consumption among underserved individuals and families.

At the heart of the ¡Más Fresco! Plus Produce Prescription Program is the goal of making fresh and nutritious produce more accessible. Patients receive “prescriptions” from healthcare providers, giving them access to locally sourced fruits and vegetables. This innovative approach empowers individuals experiencing chronic disease and health disparities to make healthier food choices for improved overall health and well-being. The heartwarming stories of program participants are testimonies to the impact of ¡Más Fresco! Plus. The program successfully encourages healthy eating habits and supports the maintenance of chronic health conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, as well as helping close the gap in food insecurity, in particular for families unable to access healthy foods or impacted by recent decreases in public assistance programs such as COVID-19 emergency funds.

By partnering with local farms to provide families with locally sourced produce, we support the local food sector and offer valuable economic support for San Diego farmers.
