12th Grade at Kearny High School

Class of 2018

Why did you join the YAC? What’s been your best experience thus far?

I joined the YAC, because I wanted to do something in my community, however just not mine. I wanted to help and be something bigger than myself, I noticed the bad that happens around communities and that changes are needed. I wanted to be part of the change, not just watch it. My best experience so far has been helping paint and decorate a small corner store. Also, I have enjoyed meeting new people while getting to hang out with my friends as well.

How has your participation in the YAC helped you develop as an individual?

Participating in the YAC has developed me into a much better person in my opinion. When I first started, I wanted to join to implement change but I was a little shy to talk about what I wanted. With the YAC we’ve been developing public speaking skills and that has made me more outgoing and more willing to express my opinions.  This also crossed into my educational life. I am currently taking communications class and it helped me speak better and not struggle, not stutter.

What’s your dream job?

My dream job is to be a pharmacist.

What’s a quote that motivates you?

“Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm”.- Winston Churchill
